Week 9

Three students went to Tauranga to compete in the Aims Tournament. Stefan, Robyn and Georgia. Georgia has written " Basketball Aims was a fun and competitive event. Our final game against Te Koutu was so hard. We traveled back & forth to Tauranga every day and teams from all around New Zealand came. It was a great experience."

On Friday 10th September Hinerangi, Carla, Paige, Amber and Steffany competed in a fun quiz night against 6 other teams. Steffany wrote - "It was a really fun activity and we won best dressed as Vampires, our team was named 'Blood Sucking Vampires!' We all won spot prizes which was great. Our most difficult question was to name one of the Top Gear presenters."

Week 8

Apirana Ngata Whanau Evening

What a sad way to start the week knowing so many people in Christchurch were suffering. In Rotorua we can sympathise as to how scary a quake can feel but to go on for such a long time and have so much damage to be cleared, fixed, checked...must be intense.

Christchurch Earthquake

Our class had 7 students absent today (Thursday), I myself cannot get rid of a cough, students are learning to cough into their arm so that germs are not spread by hand so much. I am not sure how many actually go to wash their hands before eating though!

Aims week and A1 has 3 students at this sporting event - Stefan, Georgia and Robyn - well done you 3.

Spellathon took off slowly after the mad week of mathletics. Students are asked to obtain sponsors to raise funds to help beautify the school environment. A1 has used Spelling City to list their words, this is a great, fun site to play while also learning. Have your students show you the games to play with our list of words.

Apirana Ngata Whanau evening was held on the 12 August - a well represented event. Possibly the venue was too small, next year we will know better. The students stayed at their stalls explaining their learning to parents. Teachers dressed up to make us laugh, there were give-aways and real live animals on show. To top the evening off students performed for us.

Camp Tarawera 9th March 2010

Well the year 8 teachers went out to set up the tents on the 20th, what a hot day we had. While the tents were being erected others worked on the kitchen and put the roof up for the dining room area. The water glistened and beckoned but we were far too busy to have a swim although it had been on the wish list!

The wasps annoyed us while we were eating, make sure you watch what you put into your mouth, only Debbie Hamblyn got stung on her hand as she hadn't looked underneath a plate as she lifted it.

DOC workers had air lifted small cabins as far as the lower level at camp to be carried further up the hill for trampers to use.

I'm really looking forward to our camp, what an experience to be so close to Mt Tarawera, the history and legends of the area.

Happy New Year!

Tina Muller Raewyn Campbell

Welcome to Apirana Ngata 1 blog. We are looking forward to a wonderful year with the two of us sharing the teaching in the class in 2010.
The first couple of weeks we plan to both be in class to establish routines and for you to get to know us both again. After this we will start begin our new timetable with our Wednesday technology day separating our two teaching blocks.
